If there is no proxy setting, common options are:
- Use an operating-system proxy only if the game respects it.

Games may block known proxy ranges or prohibit location manipulation, account sharing, automation, or attempts to bypass sanctions. Changing an IP does not override a game's terms or regional licensing rules.
A public-facing relay also is not a complete DDoS defense. It must have enough network capacity and filtering to absorb attacks, while the origin must reject direct connections from unauthorized sources. Otherwise, attackers can bypass the relay once the origin IP is discovered.

Can I use a free proxy for game servers?
It is possible, but generally not advisable. Free endpoints often have unpredictable capacity, short lifetimes, weak support, and unclear data handling. Gaming needs a stable route, and entering account credentials while using an unknown intermediary adds avoidable risk.
Is SOCKS5 better than a VPN for gaming?
SOCKS5 can be lighter and more application-specific, but only if the game can be routed through it and the proxy supports the required TCP or UDP traffic. A VPN is easier for games without proxy support, although it may route more device traffic and add encryption overhead.
